Day ? - P90X

Ok it is way to late to figure out what day I am on. Yesterday I officially missed my first workout. You would think that would be a terrible thing, but it wasn't I did work out but it was not yoga. I had the chance to go with 17 scouts and hike in 2.5 miles to camp with a 60 pound pack on my back. I am sore today. More sore than I have been for a while. So if I am sore I am counting yesterday as a workout no matter what anyone says.

Today (Sunday... bear with me on the days) was ab ripper and Legs and back. My legs are already hurting from yesterday so I really had t push myself. Motivation was a major factor today. It was a bad eating day. Had 4 chocolate chip cookies and a fork of ice cream. I know bad. But i finished both workouts and think I did pretty well. Hunter and Lauren entertain me by trying to do the work out. Still can't do a single stinkin pull up without the stool. Oh well not that far into this.

Day 14/15 P90X

Well yesterday I did part of the Stretch video and then called it a night. I really like the stretch video but I was exhausted.

Today was day 15 of P90X it was the last time I would do Chest and back until next month. Today I really brought it in this workout. I pushed to do more in everything and succeeded. My arms are like jello. I did not pause this dvd at all. I blasted right through it. I even fast forwarded a few times when I could only do about 12 reps and the trainers went on to do 20-25. I need to find out if it is better to wait for them or blast through it. Anyway Great work out. I will do Abs tonight with the boys.

Day 13 - P90X

Kenpo X - I really like this workout. It flies by. I am able to do everything on it easier this time since last week was the first time. The punching, kicking and blocking sequences came much easier. I wish all the workouts were like this one. The only thing I did not do was the X jumps during the breaks. I am a little apprehensive about this move with my knees. Awesome workout though felt great afterward despite getting very little sleep last night due to work.

Day 12 - P90X

Yesterday was Legs and Back and I had a tough time getting motivated to do this workout. I finally got into gear about 5:00 and did it. It felt good to get it done. I do admit I stopped with 7 minutes left on the video but that included about 5 minutes of cool down. Melanie and Connor walked in the door from the State Rifle Championships in Wenatchee. They had to tell me about all of the fun stuff they did and show me the medals and plaques he won. The weather up there was terrible this year, the worst in 25 years. Anyways back to P90X the leg and back video seemed harder this week. Maybe I was pushing harder or maybe I just was not into it. Nevertheless it was a good workout.

Day 11 - P90X Yoga

Today was yoga. Hunter and Lauren started and made it through about 20 minutes. So much for the strength of youth. I still have a bit of a rough time at the very end of the balanced poses and some of the yoga core 7 but will eventually get there. Over all it was a good work out.

The kids asked if I was trying to get a 6 pack like I used to have. I was like, what I never had a 6 pack. They said oh yes you did. I said no I didn't, so they proceeded to find a picture of me from swim team that looked like the top of a six pack of abs. Wow where was I when I had that. We will see if I get one with P90X I am not holding my breath though.

Day 10 P90X

Wahoo!! Day 10 Done!! Today was shoulders and arms. I never had to stop the video and did very well. I think this is one of my favorites. I have never had much arm strength so I hope to see improvements in this area. Arms are tired but still feel good.

After shoulders and arms I did AbRipper. I went a bit out of order today. I did the Roll Up V Ups first and kicked out 25, then I did the straight arm sit ups. I was able to get all but 9 reps done today believe it or not the Mason twist is the only one I did not complete.

I am finding now that I can concentrate on the videos more I have not been doing the right form on some of the exercises so I am now able to work on that.

Melanie and Connor are headed to Wenatchee for the State Rifle Championships. Should be a good time. I will hold down the fort here.

Day 9 - P90X Plyo

Todays workout was good. I did not seem nearly as winded as last week. I certainly feel real good right now in comparison to last week. Seem to be getting the eating part down a bit better. I started off with a drink this morning that included protein powder (vanilla), ice, water and strawberries. It tasted ok. Some Almond milk in it would have been even better. I think that drink gave me the energy to make it through. I paused it 3 times for about 30 seconds each to stop some dizziness. That is a personal health issue that I have to be cognizant of though and not purely from the workout.

Very little soreness left even after yesterdays Chest and Back workout. I still feel like I am pushing hard to muscle fatigue but the soreness is not there. Which is a good thing. Occasionally I get soreness in strange places. Yesterday it was on my back toward the side over the ribs. But today that is a bit better.

Day 7 P90X - Stretch

So I finally did the stretch video albeit at 11:30 at night but it is done. I thought I would take the whole day off but this blog kept me on track. It is hard to report on something you don't do so I did it. I am glad I did to. I feel great right now. Tires but great. If you think you want to just skip the Stretch video think twice about it. It is good for you. It stretches those sore muscles so they are less sore and you will feel good during this video, unlike all of the other videos. I look forward to next weeks rest day.

Not only did I do the stretch I got out and rode around town on my bike and helped with a service project splitting and stacking wood. .

Tomorrow is Chest and Back.... I hurt thinking about it.

Day 6 P90X

Today was Kenpo X. One reason I like this workout is very little equipment is needed. A towel and water bottle that's it. It is definitely a cardio workout. Not too hard but certainly gets the blood pumping. My arms are a bit tired from it but that is it. This workout flies by unlike some of the others that seems to crawl along. One of my favorites. Now if I could be coordinated enough to do everything correctly and not fall over I will be set.

I might try my first ever video blog later. Never tried that before.

Day 5 P90X

Whew, legs and back done. I hung in there pretty good on this one with the exception of the wall squats. They kill me. It was harder to workout with the entire family talking around me. jumping in here and there when they thought the exercise looked easy. Harder to concentrate but I sweat the most I have yet in the program. I did 246 reps in Ab Ripper today up 46 from the other day. Hunter did it also and that actually helped. He is fun to workout with. On to Kenpo tomorrow. This one worries me a little with my past knee issues. I will take it slow.

Day 4 P90X

Yoga X - Ok, this is a lot harder than you might think. It is by far the longest workout coming in at 1 hour and 30 minutes. The first 45 minutes are harder poses that really push you. There is one pose that you are suppose to have one arm behind your back and one goes under your thigh and they are suppose to clasp fingers. Yeah right! I can't even find the other arm on one side. Balancing is about 15 minutes, there are a few of those I can not do yet either. The crane will take some practice. Over all it is a great workout. Lots of stretching which is key in my current state of soreness.

I worked pretty much all night last night so it is now time for a shower and a nap. Have a great day.

Banana Ice Cream


Ok, so I love ice cream and one of the harder things to do while eating healthy is avoiding ice cream. Well here is a solution that even I could do.

1. Get one or two ripe bananas.
2. Freeze them.
3. Once frozen put them in a food processor or blender for about 3 minutes or until creamy smooth.

4. Eat it!!

It is really that easy. Everyone of the kids asked if it was ice cream.

I hear that green bananas have a green banana taste, which makes sense. Some have tried adding chocolate or peanut butter to it and say it is good also. I will have to try that next.

Day 3 P90X

Today was a pretty good day in P90X. I changed things up just a bit. I did Ab Ripper before the other workout and went from 84 reps to 200 reps. Much better than before. Roll Up - V-Up combo still kills me. Squeaked out 4 today, form probably sucked though.

As for Arms and Shoulders I liked this one. Although I am a whimp and in some of the exercises am only using 5 pound weights hopefully this will go up. I am tired at the end of the straight arm reps even with only 5.

Soreness - Well in addition to my arms and chest being sore from day one, now my hips and upper legs are sore. Sitting down is more like a slightly controlled fall. I remember this part from last time I did... started... P90X. Most of the soreness is gone after about 2 weeks or at least that is how it was then.

I have energy and look forward to getting a few things done around the house today since I am not exhausted like the last 2 days. Tomorrow is Yoga, absolute killer workout. But I know it is good for me and part of the program.

Day 2 P90X

Well day 2 workout is complete. Plyometrics is a tough workout, most say the hardest. If I was in shape I think I would really like it. The only problem is even the guys doing the video look like they are going to pass out. Lots of squats, jumping and spinning. Since I started off at the weight of 204 I am now down to 199.5... I think seeing as our scale is cracked and reads different every time you get on it. For my protein shake I threw some chia seeds in. not sure if it did much.

Day 1 P90X


I suppose talking about my first workout would be good. I did the Chest and Back workout today. Nearly died I think. I did not do all the reps, quite frankly I don't know who would really be able to finish all of the reps the first day. My arms are like jello, washing my hair was kind of funny seeing as I could barely lift my arms to shampoo. Going to be sore tomorrow.

The diet is pretty hard also. I am Level 3 which means I am suppose to eat something like 3000 calories. My problem is it is 2:00 p.m. and i am full from my breakfast and recovery drink. I will report on day 2 tomorrow.

Day 1 P90X

I have never been one for a bunch of exercise but I have decided to make an attempt at getting in shape for the first time in years. I have attempted P90X before but ended up getting knee surgery, although I don't think it was directly related to the program. I think my wife Melanie thinks I am crazy but still supports me in my crazy ideas. At some point I will post some pictures, but for now I will wait until day 30 to post my comparison pictures.
